Abstract

Studies of the effects of aging on human sexual behavior have been consistent in finding decreased sexual libido and activity in both sexes as aging occurs. Beginning at approximately age 50, there appears to be a gradual continuous decline in sexual interest and activity. Some of this decline in sexual activity appears to be a function of normal aging. Some is clearly associated with age-related disease processes and their treatment. A minority of individuals remain sexually active on a once a week to once a month basis into their 80s and 90s.
