Abstract

Academy of Management Annual Meeting Proceedings includes abstracts of all papers and symposia presented at the annual conference, plus 6-page abridged versions of the “Best Papers” accepted for inclusion in the program (approximately 10%). Papers published in the Proceedings are abridged because presenting papers at their full length could preclude subsequent journal publication. In one paper, leadership skill requirements are conceptualized as being layered and segmented, and are described using a strataplex. Findings of the study indicate that different types of leadership skill requirements emerge at different organizational levels, and that jobs at higher levels of the organization require higher levels of all leadership skills. The authors of another paper examined both situational and dispositional antecedents of four ingratiatory behaviors: other enhancing, opinion conformity, favor rendering, and self-promotion. The paper titled 'Faking in the Employment Interview' suggests that international response distortion of faking can manifest itself in the employment interview. The authors of the paper argue that faking behavior is a function of the interaction of capacity, willingness, and opportunity to fake. Another study compares the levels of predictive validity and the extent of statistical adverse impact against minorities based on top-down performance appraisals, a multirater appraisal system and a traditional Assessment Center. Possible reasons for the discrepant findings of the various methods of analysis and implications for expert witness testimony are also discussed.FiguresReferencesRelatedDetails Vol. 2003, No. 1 Permissions Metrics in the past 12 months History Published online 13 December 2017 Published in print 1 August 2003 InformationCopyright of Academy of Management Journal is the property of Academy of Management and its content may not be copied or emailed to multiple sites or posted to a listserv without the copyright holder’s express written permission.
