Abstract

In the present era of advanced remote sensing and spatially enabled sensor technology, huge volume of spatial/geospatial data is produced and maintained independently by several government agencies across the country. However, sharing and utilization of this geospatial data often become impossible due to the absence of geospatial data standards and lack of coordination in generating and maintaining the data sets. This work aims at developing a resource module on geospatial data modeling and services to facilitate organizations in modeling their own data sets. The major components of the chapter are as follows: (i) modeling geospatial data in standardized format, like unified modeling language (UML); (ii) generating interchangeable format (XMI, XSD, etc.) from the spatial data model, and (iii) realization of spatial data infrastructure (SDI) using spatial Web services. Further, it also introduces the concepts/usages of mobile geospatial services, geospatial registry services, and geospatial cloud. This approach/framework may help in better realization of the national spatial data infrastructure (NSDI).
