is a summaryof current human rabies exposure managementfrom the perspective of the developed world wherebiologicals are available, public health staff handle mostrabies-exposed subjects and mostly for free to thepatients. The situation is different in rabies-endemicregions where rabies vaccines and immunoglobulinsare often not available or affordable to the averagecitizen. The fear of rabies, the adverse side effectsfrom old brain-tissue-derived vaccines, the lengthypostexposure treatment schedules, and the dreadfuldeath are still remembered. They discourage somepatients from seeking professional help.
