Abstract

Human papillomavirus (HPV) has been implicated in the development of digital squamous cell carcinoma (SCC). Case reports in the literature mostly identify HPV type 16 present in tumors, but HPV types 2, 31, 34, 35, and 73 have also been isolated. Two cases of digital SCC associated with HPV 16 in young African-American men are presented. Digital SCC associated with HPV may be difficult to evaluate and treat, particularly in African-Americans and patients with human immunodeficiency virus (HIV). We discuss the need for careful evaluation, treatment, and follow-up of these individuals.
