Abstract

The SWIFT project, CEC EURET 1.5. is investigating specifications for future air traffic controller working positions (CWP). As part of this work, between January 1993 and February 1994 a number of experiments were conducted using practising air traffic controllers from six European countries to evaluate proposed CWP human machine interfaces. These experiments used four different testbeds and covered oceanic, en-route and terminal area operations. The en-route experiments were conducted with full control suites whereas the oceanic and terminal area investigations used mainly rapid prototyping tools.
