Abstract

The results are reported of a serological investigation into the occurrence of leptospirosis in the general population throughout Thailand. Positive agglutination reactions for various serotypes of pathogenic leptospires were found in 22–35% of the 3746 people examined. The highest incidence occurred in south Thailand. The most common serotypes were L. grippotyphosa, L. icterohaemorrhagiae and L. bataviae. In two-thirds of these infections no symptoms were admitted.
