Introduction

HIV infection is the greatest risk factor for acquiring Mycobacterium tuberculosis (M.tb) infection and developing TB. While the annual number of new HIV infections has steadily declined, and the number of people receiving antiretroviral therapy increased, the HIV pandemic has so far caused the death of nearly 30 million people from AIDS-related causes.
