Abstract
The Human Cytochrome P450 (CYP) allele web page offers a rapid online publication of new CYP alleles describing their major properties. This is of benefit for all scientists being able to speak the same language and of benefit for industry having an easy accessible source of information of importance in drug development and for design of clinical trials with respect to genetic polymorphic factors. The existence of pages with newly updated information prevents unnecessary doubling of research efforts aimed at characterizing alleles described in the chapter. Currently, this Web site covers the nomenclature for polymorphic alleles of CYP isoforms including more than 200 functionally different variants. Each CYP has its own Web page, which lists the alleles with their nucleotide changes, their functional consequences, and links to publications where the allele has been identified and characterized. The CYP allele Web site offers a rapid on-line publication of new alleles, provides an overview of peer-reviewed data, and serves as a form of quality control on research on new alleles.
