Abstract

ABSTRACT This article presents a study that focused on employees and their experiences of an intergenerational program with older adult volunteers in a child-care facility. The paper explores the intentional creation of third places and its contribution to the development and maintenance of relationships between child-care staff and volunteers. Findings from this study indicate that building respect, valuing commitment, and gaining enjoyment are vital aspects of the human connections that are established and nourished in third places.
