Abstract

The study investigated the effectiveness of human and material resources for teaching of students with visual impairment in Ministry of Education Special Education Centre, Uyo, Akwa Ibom State. The study adopted descriptive survey research design and three research questions were posed on the basis of the three independent variables which include human resources, material resources and effective teaching of students with visual impairment in the school. To enhance the effective data collection, a validated 15 items Questionnaire titled Human and Material Resources for Effective Teaching of Students with Visual Impairment was administered on five staff and fifteen students making it a total number of twenty in the study area including observation and checklist. The result showed that some of the above resources are available for teaching visual impaired students, and sampling techniques used for the study was census. The theory adopted for the work was the theory of Instructional realism propounded by Hoban-Ziasmanian (1937). Based on the findings, some recommendations were made among others that government and others concerned agencies should design and sponsor school personnel, facilities and equipment programmed so as to update their knowledge and skills in meeting today’s classroom and societal needs.
