Abstract

Introductions: Dental caries is the most common disease in children. In Indonesia, 54.0% suffer from dental caries in the 5-9 years age group. Caries can be prevented with preventive care where parents have an important role to take care their children’s oral health. Purpose: Determine the relationship between parents’ education level on their intention to take care their children’s oral health in first-grade students of SD Negeri 01 Punten Batu City. Methods: This research was conducted using questionnaires. The research population is 69 people with total sampling technique. The education level was measured according to the last level of education taken. Willingness to take care their children’s oral health was measured based on questions of the theory of planned behaviour. Results: Most parents with high school education level (57.4%) and score of willingness to take care of their children’s oral health is at high category (75.4%). Spearman’s statistical test obtained p value at 0.759 (sig>0,05). Conclusions: There is no significant relationship between parents’ education level on their willingness to take care their children’s oral health in first-grade students of SD Negeri 01 Punten Batu City. Public awareness needs to be increased by increasing knowledge through various sources of information.
