Abstract

Hypertension and its complications are the number one cause of death globally. Diabetes mellitus is one of the contributing factors to hypertension. Diabetes mellitus can occur due to pancreatic disorders that do not produce enough insulin. Diabetes mellitus can occur along with hypertension as a result of pathological psoses from the clinical course of diabetes. This study was conducted on 28 August to 16 September 2023. The purpose of this study was to determine the relationship between the duration of DM and the incidence of hypertension in type II DM patients. The type of research used is correlational analytic with a cross sectional approach. The number of samples in this study were 52 respondents using purposive sampling technique by collecting data, namely Total Samplig and statistical tests using Chi Squere. The results of the research obtained from respondents who suffered from DM> 5 years were 32 (61.5%) respondents and respondents who suffered from DM < 5 years were 20 (38.5%) respondents. The results showed a relationship between the length of time suffering from DM and the incidence of hypertension in type II DM patients with a value (p Value = 0.004), with the majority of sufferers being women. Respondents should always routinely control blood sugar levels and blood pressure in order to maintain their health, and nurses need to measure the length of time suffering from DM with the incidence of hypertension in type II DM patients to prevent more severe complications.
