Abstract

The d-p model of the CuO 2 plane is investigated by use of a modified Hubbard approximation in order to see how the charge-transfer type electronic state is realized. This theory gives a nearly empty Mott-Hubbard band consisting of both d and p orbitals and the charge transfer gap of 2.6 eV for La 2CuO 4.
