Abstract
Epitaxial growth of thin monocristalized YIG films has been performed by flux and hydrothermal methods using flux grown GdGaG single crystals as seed plates. BaO0.6B2O3 solvent and 1050–1110°C deposition temperatures were used in flux method. 2M NaOH solvant solutions and different nutrient materials were tested to hydrothermal synthesis; the best results were obtained by reacting FeNaO2 and Y(OH) at 500°C and 2 kbar with a 30 °C temperature gradient and a 5 to 20% baffle opening. The deposited films are of quite good quality and uniformity, especially when seeds were cut parallel to (211) and (110) orientations; with a thickness of 2 to 3 μm, the films were transparent, with a yellow-green color. Observed under polarized light, some films show very regular band shaped domains.ΔH was also tested as 1 Oe in some cases.
