Abstract

WeChat has been developed as the popular social media in China, and enables people to break the limits of time and space, give and obtain variety of social supports. In order to research the influence of social support on individual health, this study constructed a research model based on social support theory and loneliness. Data were collected through questionnaire and analyzed by SPSS and Smart PLS. Research results showed that informational support and network support during the WeChat usage can significantly influence users’ perceived health. In addition, informational support, emotional support, and network support can significantly reduce the perceived loneliness. Network support exerts the strongest influence on perceived loneliness. Finally, the perceived loneliness significantly reduces the perceived health.
