Abstract

For most wilderness-oriented courses, the students’ main reference and learning tool is a book, which may or may not have been designed as a textbook. If the book does not do everything that you want it to do, you may want to reinforce or supplement the text with handouts. You may also want to present facts and concepts visually in class by showing students key words, drawings, photos, or models. These visual aids should be planned to reinforce or supplement what is in the book.
