Abstract

Peer-review may be defined as the process through which external experts are invited to scrutinize research material (eg, papers, conference abstracts, grant proposals) to advise on quality, validity, and suitability for publication. Peer-review is important for quality control of published material but can be time-consuming and is often performed voluntarily by a limited pool of experts. Despite being the bedrock of academia, peer-review is rarely incorporated into specialist training programs.
