Abstract

Pre-neuromodulation psychological assessment is performed to assess suitability of patients for spinal cord stimulation (SCS).1 The Pain Catastrophizing Scale (PCS) considers pain catastrophizing as a multidimensional construct comprising three elements: rumination (“I can’t stop thinking about how much it hurts”), magnification (“I worry that something serious may happen”), and helplessness (“There is nothing I can do to reduce the intensity of the pain”).2 The objective of this study was to compare the baseline and longitudinal total PCS score and the scores of its three subcategories (rumination, magnification and helplessness) with the outcomes of SCS trials (success versus failure) and implants (responders versus non-responders).
