Abstract

This chapter discusses two documentary projects: Ich ahnungsloser Engel. Lesbenprotokolle (1991) and …viel zuviel verschwiegen. Eine historische Dokumentation von Lebensgeschichten lesbischer Frauen aus der Deutschen Demokratischen Republik (1996). They were both published as attempts to make lesbian experiences retrospectively visible by showing a variety of individual life stories as protocols. Drawing on the affective turn in queer theory and the history of emotions, an analysis of these two books as micro-archives of feelings offers insights into the emotional aspects of lesbian lives in East Germany during the 1970s. These insights radically question the hegemonic narrative of the ‘legendary 70s’.
