Abstract

Academy of Management Annual Meeting Proceedings includes abstracts of all papers and symposia presented at the annual conference, plus 6-page abridged versions of the “Best Papers” accepted for inclusion in the program (approximately 10%). Papers published in the Proceedings are abridged because presenting papers at their full length could preclude subsequent journal publication. Please contact the author(s) directly for the full papers. The primary question is: "How can you publish your book in the management field?" and the secondary question is: "Why are some management topics/theories published in books, but others are not?" This symposium will examine both "what" activities can be done and "how" those activities can be accomplished in order to publish your book in the management field. This symposium will examine why so many management scholars learn how to create new theories in their doctoral program, but then are not taught how to make those theories into marketable ideas that are compelling for publishers to publish in book format. This symposium is divided into two parts. The first three presenters are acquisitions editors at three major publishing houses: Alison Hankey (John Wiley & Sons, Inc.), Maggie Stanley (SAGE Publications, Inc.), and Sharon Golan (Taylor & Francis), who will explore how to publish your book from the PUBLISHER side of the process. These three presenters will explain everything that you need to know to impress acquisitions editors about your management work. These presenters will also discuss the reasons why some management ideas and theories are published, but others are not published. In the second part of the symposium, three presenters will explore how to publish your book from the AUTHOR side of the process. Three published management book authors (Ed Locke, Patricia Thornton, and Jeffrey Miles) will share their secrets about getting your management book published. These presenters will explain everything that you need to do as an author to get your management work published in book format. The Author Side of Publishing Your Management BookPresenter: Edwin A.
