Abstract

The development of Newcastle's Business and Technical Library is analysed. Lessons drawn include: the need to get out into the market place; make your service fit market needs; tell your customers how you can help them; sell your product; direct mail works wonders, and the need to take risks. The article concludes with a short discussion on how these lessons can be applied by other libraries.
