Abstract

ABSTRACT. This paper tends to demonstrate ways, methods, and primary scientific solutions to create a healthy, resilient, and livable city from ecological balance perspective in cities. Thus, making the built environment and urban ecology causing the least possible, and ideally no damage to water, soil, air (abiotic components), plants, climate, and humans is the purpose. Fulfilling the purpose, the balance between the demands of humans and those of nature are analyzed. Methodology used in this paper is based on the study of the effects of the built environment and the urban ecology on human health and nature, recognizing the demands of the natural environment components and humans, understanding the internal relationships in ecosystems, identifying the factors which disturb these relationships, and using the positive and beneficial properties of natural ecosystems and components for the built environment. Nature encompasses a variety of properties which are of paramount importance for us to make our cities healthier. Moreover, in order to deal with the disturbing conditions, nature frequently regulates itself to the context. The methods used by nature to compromise with the disturbing factors are absolutely significant. We should learn from nature more than ever before. If we want to have a healthy, livable city in terms of the environmental factors, we should simulate the self-regulation properties of the nature as the reactions of natural environment components and ecosystems to disturbing factors in cities. Therefore, proposing the ways to use these characteristics is the conclusion of this paper.
