Abstract

The significance of cultural awareness and the intimacy between culture and language call for the integration between Chinese traditional culture and English teaching. To know the current situation of Chinese traditional culture in high school English teaching, this thesis conducts a survey from three aspects: teachers’ ability in Chinese traditional culture, teachers’ attitude and teaching practice. The data shows that (1) in terms of teachers’ ability in Chinese traditional culture, high school English teachers have a low ability in Chinese traditional culture; (2) in terms of teachers’ attitude, teachers aware of the significance of Chinese traditional culture, but they don’t get the role that English course plays in the teaching of Chinese traditional culture;(3) in terms of teaching practice, the teaching content, textbooks, homework and assessment seldom cover Chinese traditional culture.
