Abstract
External electrical cardioversion of atrial fibrillation is an important component of a rhythm control strategy. R-wave synchronised biphasic defibrillation has a high acute success rate at an overall low complication rate below 1 %. This manuscript summarizes practical aspects how to perform external cardioversion in atrial fibrillation.
