Abstract
Parts I-III of Philip Miller's and my account of the Music Division's history have reported the ideas, the activities, and the achievements of many members of our staffs and their associates, both in the library and in numerous outside constituencies. In writing of our exhibitions, I am reporting on and delineating the ideas of more recent colleagues.1 Most of the activities in a research library are the result of joint effort, and exhibitions fit into such a pattern. In the descriptions of exhibitions that follow I have listed the staff members responsible; also, in a number of cases, I am literally quoting their words, especially in descriptions which include excerpts from press releases issued by the library in announcing an exhibition.
