Abstract

ABSTRACT This paper reviews literature and data on intellectual property strength around the world, and discusses the different tools used to protect intellectual property in international business. Evidence is shown that while a country may offer strong protection on one tool of intellectual property (IP), it may not be as strong in enforcing other types of IP tools. This difference may impact foreign location decisions of international firms. A model of location desirability for international firms based upon IP strength is developed.
