Abstract

This paper carries forward my work on the dialogic structure of semiotics, the general purpose of which is to account for the pro cedures for increasing knowledge and information on any given topic with respect to contextual universes of discourse. This forward move requires that fundamental principles of the interrogative structure of dialogue be recovered or abstracted from the various grounds of discipline-specific inquiries into the problem of inquiry. Although a typology of questions, which appears to have some universal significance, has been tentatively established based on linguistic in vestigation of natural languages, these basic "types" can be shown to have, as a whole, a more general reference, and are classified as follows:
