Abstract

We propose and solve analytically a simplified intra-nuclear cascade for hadron-nucleus collisions above 10 GeV incident energy. A simple formula relates the number of grey particles to the number of hadron-nucleon collisions inside the target. The relation exhibits some scaling properties of the experimental data, which have not been noticed before. The cross sections σ hH for the incident hadron h and σ h∗ N for the hadron h ∗ (which is produced in the cascade) are related by 0.7⩽σ h∗ N/ σ hN ⩽ 1.4 .
