Abstract

The rapid development of electrostatic accelerators and high resolution magnetic spectrographs has created an increased demand for thin targets with high isotopic and chemical purity. In relation to an outline of some of the more promising high resolution studies of nuclear reactions the requirements to such samples are discussed. It is concluded that the direct deposition of the target material on thin backings in a laboratory size electromagnetic isotope separator will meet most of the requirements.
