Abstract

The space agencies of Brazil, the United States, and Europe will work together to determine the extent of global tropical deforestation from satellite imagery and ground observations.The program, conducted as part of activities leading up to the International Space Year in 1992, was undertaken in part to resolve large differences in estimates of recent deforestation in Amazonia by scientists at INPE, Brazil's space agency, and NASA.
