Abstract

The idea behind the use of the search conference to start the project was developed by Trist and Emery at the Tavistock Institute of Human Relations in the 1950s. Its main feature is to assemble as many people as possible from the company to a few days open conference. Here the participants, working individually and in groups, provide the data they need to solve tasks concerning the past, present and future situation of the company. The results showed that the search conference was successful and the conclusion was drawn that it is a suitable method for starting a total quality leadership project in an organization.
