Abstract

This article presents a Monte Carlo simulation method for the solution of a common problem in department stores, the determination of the number of clerks to be assigned to a floor. Based upon empirical observations as well as fictitious data, the method works with five familiar variables to obtain a usable answer. The authors suggest relatively simple adjustments to the model which will provide for a practical application.
