Abstract

During the Gulf War, Iraq overtook Syria as Israel's most serious security concern. Saddam Hussein's missile arsenal was well known to the Israelis and throughout the conflict Israeli intelligence sources were able to provide high levels of information on Iraqi movements and intentions. The author discusses the progress of the conflict, the Iraqi missile attacks on Israel and how Israel maintained both missile and force movements. He concludes that with Saddam Hussein's retention of power, the regional military balance seems to have tipped even further against Israel and may drive her into even more hardline positions in order to maintain her security.
