Abstract
Evidence-Based Answer Allopurinol does not appear to reduce the number of gout attacks compared with placebo, febuxostat, or benzbromarone, in patients with gout; however, allopurinol is effective at lowering serum urate (SOR: B, meta-analysis of lower quality RCTs).
