Abstract

In her works Hannah Arendt distinguishes between two-party and multi-party political systems. According to her thesis, multi-party systems, connected strictly to continental Europe, tend to evolve into autocracy, while two-party systems, established in the United States by the Founding Fathers, are safeguarded from this danger. The following paper tries to describe this difference, using the non-Marxian materialism of Leszek Nowak as one of the descriptive and explanatory tools to explain the phenomena.
