Abstract
AbstractIn the last two decades, after the Asian financial crisis, Korea's employment composition has witnessed a rapid increase in temporary contractual work. I investigate the impact of changes in parental job status from employment with permanent contracts to that with temporary contracts on children's health using Korea Welfare Panel Study data. I find that parental job status changes to temporary contractual work from permanent contracts have a significantly negative effect on children's health. This outcome can be attributed to adverse financial shocks and a deterioration in mental health, which seem to outweigh the time reallocation effects.
