How children clue into the meaning of messages: a look at language comprehension

Abstract

This article explores the development of language comprehension in children by examining the relationship between what is said to a child and the ongoing non-verbal situation. These two aspects of the total communication event — the verbal context and the non-verbal context — provide children with the components for their understanding.
