Abstract

Seven patients with facial numbness of between 3 weeks and 18 months duration were seen at a neurological clinic over a period of 18 months. The final diagnoses in six were carcinoma of the nasopharynx, salivary adenoma, secondary adenocarcinoma, disseminated sclerosis, brain-stem vascular accident, and dental trauma. Facial numbness should only be accepted as a benign entity after resolute investigation and careful follow-up of such patients over a prolonged period of time.
