Abstract

Results of a recent CareQuest Institute for Oral Health consumer survey about the impact of the pandemic on health equity revealed that six million people lost their dental coverage as a result of the pandemic. This points to serious challenges ahead as our recovery continues. Embracing and investing in oral health policy changes, clinical and scientific innovations, and ways to increase access will lead us toward an oral health care system that is smarter, integrated, and affordable. In this blog post, we discuss the importance of innovation in science and technology to level the playing field and address health disparities by providing low-cost, scalable solutions to oral health integration and access. We also discuss the explosion of telehealth in the past year, which brings tremendous opportunity to make oral health care more accessible, affordable, and integrated to achieve equity in a highly inequitable oral health system.
