Abstract

This paper is devoted to a study of how a crack affects the radiation strength of crystals subjected to the action of powerful laser radiation. The mechanisms by which cracks act on the radiation strength of samples are displayed. The dependence of the radiation strength on the time of existence of a crack is considered. A technique is discussed for enhancing the mechanical and radiation strength of a transparent material.
