Abstract

The ratio of the induced power required to hover in ground effect relative to that out of ground effect in a small negatively buoyant demersal teleost (Synchiropus picturatus) is compared with that of helicopters and a theoretical curve. It is concluded that the hovering performance of S. picturatus in ground effect is superior to that of the average helicopter.
