Abstract
In order to accurately describe the type of town planning in this town and the housing, mention should first be made of Salzgitter's topography in the transitional area between the North German lowland plain and the range of hills probably better known as the Harz Highlands, as reflected in the development pattern and the appearance of the town. In Lebenstedt town planning and housing development are mainly carried out plot by plot, whereas in the southern part of the urban area, the mountainous region must be taken into consideration.
