Abstract

The National Home Builders Registration Council regulates the housing sector in South Africa. Established under the NHBRC Act, it has diverse powers which enable it to regulate every aspect of the home building industry in South Africa. It can register projects and promoters, establish quality standards to be followed in the industry and can take punitive action against defaulters. These are but a few of its powers. This paper analyses the structure and functioning of the NHBRC and analyses the feasibility of having such a body to regulate the real estate sector in India.
