Abstract

A study was carried out to assess the housing needs of people in wheelchairs. It was found that most people preferred adaptation to normal property rather than re-housing, the location in which they lived being an important factor. Mobility housing provided throughout the District would overcome some problems, but purpose-built accommodation is essential for a small minority of people, particularly those in electric wheelchairs. Existing information on the numbers and needs of people in wheelchairs is inadequate to establish rational policies.
