Abstract

The paper presents basic empirical data on households' strategies in the society of the Republika Srpska. Data are collected in a survey conducted within the project of Department of Sociology, University of East Sarajevo (in the 2010). First part of the paper explains the significance of socio-cultural capital of the family for the development of the work strategies in the post-war society (like the society of Republika Srpska). The theoretical standpoints rely on previous sociological research on Households' work strategies in Serbian society. In the second part of the paper, empirical data from the research are being analyzed. Data indicate that within the post-war society of Republika Srpska most of the existential needs are being fulfilled due to more or less successful households' strategies. It is being emphasized that such strategies can be considered as 'situational' strategies which aim is to compensate the absence of long-term (or 'system') development strategies. It is also argued that such social pattern of coping with scarcity could be dominant for least a decade.
