Abstract

Abstract The wastewater quantity always exceeds the amount of water purified through R.O system in every household. This wastewater needs to be put to better use for other household activities like kitchen purposes, washroom, lawn etc. In this paper, a model consisting of integrated Programmable logic controller (PLC) and Supervisory Control and Data Acquisition (SCADA) system has been proposed to manage wastewater coming out from Reverse Osmosis (R.O) system. The PLC used in this project monitors the operation of all the components used in the model and executes the commands. The SCADA software is used to make the simulation of the model to continuously view the operation and working of the components . To execute the working of the model, a case study has been performed, which gives us an idea about the usage of water by a nuclear family in a whole year. According to the study, the normal domestic consumption of water in a month is around 24,000 litres for a nuclear family. With the help of automation, we can reuse or save approximately 3000 litres (12.5%) of waste water from the R.O system every month. With the use of the proposed model we can not only reuse the waste water from the R.O system but also help in saving the monthly water bill of the family.
