Abstract

ABSTRACT This study determined the prevalence and association of household food insecurity and its association with anemia among children in a Nigerian rural community. A descriptive cross-sectional community-based study design with 308 households in Akwa-Ibom state, Nigeria, was used. Household food insecurity access was assessed using HFIAS questionnaire. Haemoglobin was assessed using cyanmethemoglobin method. Bivariate logistic regression analysis was done to identify factors associated with household food insecurity. Having self-employed mothers (COR = 1.093; 95% CI = 0.301–3.962) and large household size (COR = 2.163; 95% CI = 1.229–3.809) were associated with increased risk of household food insecurity.
