Abstract
If you care about what will happen in the future to dying patients, read volume 1 of the report of the Select Committee on Medical Ethics (House of Lords, 1994). The Committee was set up to consider: 'The ethical, legal and clinical implications of a person's right to withhold consent to lifeprolonging treatment and the position of the persons who are no longer able to give or withhold consent.'
