Epilepsy Behav. 2006;9:89–94; doi:10.1016/j.yebeh.2006.03.013 Researchers at Sisle Etfal Education Hospital, Istanbul, Turkey analyzed the clinical and electroencephalographic findings in 25 patients with seizures precipitated by hot water bathing (hot water epilepsy or HWE). A review of medical records of patients seen at an epilepsy outpatient clinic since 1995 was used to identify individuals with HWE. The age at onset of HWE ranged from 6 months to 37 years (mean age, 13 years); 52% of these patients had their first seizure during the first decade of life. The male:female ratio was 3:1. Three patients (12%) had a history of febrile seizures, and 11 (44%) had a family history of epilepsy, although none of the family members had a history of HWE.
